INTERGIFT MADRID: WHAT I NOTICED THIS YEAR

Intergift Madrid is one of the main decor and interior design fairs in Spain, bringing together brands, manufacturers and designers from across Europe.

It’s a good place to get a clear sense of current decor trends, materials and color directions that are shaping real interiors.

Last week I spent a whole day at Intergift, one of those much anticipated moments of the year if you work with interiors. Events like this are important in my work because they inspire me, help me see how decorative pieces can support a design, and also give me a sense of what’s trending at the moment.

For me, fairs like this aren’t about chasing the last trends. I go to see what’s out there at the moment, what feels new, what’s sticking around, and which materials, colors and ideas are actually finding their way into real homes and projects.

Intergift is very much a decor-focused fair, and that’s exactly what makes it so relevant to the work I do, because decorative elements are never just “extra details”. They’re what introduce color, texture and a sense of personality into a space.

Madrid, as always, was full of energy but cold and rainy, the kind of day that makes you move quickly between pavilions, wrap your coat tighter, and really appreciate a warm coffee break. Inside the fair, though, the atmosphere was lively and relaxed. The place was overflowing with decoration in every form, from decorative pieces to textiles, rugs, lighting, furniture and seasonal elements, all the layers that give a space its final character. Everywhere you looked, there was something to stop you in your tracks.

Texture over form in current decor trends One thing that stood out immediately was how important feels right now, often more than form itself: matte ceramics, rough finishes, tactile fabrics, imperfect details. Many of the decorative pieces I saw weren’t designed to impress from a distance, but to reveal themselves up close, the kinds of elements that add depth to a space and make it feel more authentic. It feels like a move away from perfection, and towards materials that age beautifully.

Earthy neutrals, still very present this year: Another clear direction was the presence of earthy, nature-inspired neutrals. This isn’t something new, but it’s still evolving. Beige, off-white, olive, muted earthy tones paired with natural fibers and decorative objects that look handmade giving a feeling of calm and less styled, more lived in. It works beautifully as a base and leaves room for a space to grow over time.

Color used with confidence: At the same time, there was a noticeable push in the opposite direction, towards, often right on the edge of kitsch. Used carefully, these elements can bring personality and contrast, but they need context and restraint to work. It’s not about adding more, but knowing when to stop.

One of the things I value most at design fairs are the conversations. Talking things through, asking questions and exchanging ideas with the people behind the products helps me better understand how certain pieces or materials could fit into future projects, and that was very much part of my experience at Intergift.

The day ended with tired feet and a head full of thoughts, and my phone full of photos and details I know I’ll come back to, the kind of things that I know will find their place in my future projects. That’s exactly what a visit like this is meant to do.

Overall, Intergift Madrid gave me a very realistic picture of current decor trends, especially when it comes to texture, color and decorative elements, that I can see translating into real projects.
